That means you must not currently hold or have held a Card issued directly by American Express Australia in the last 18 months.

Is Amex accepted at many places these days? I.e. can I use it when I do my shopping?
Hi Seb, yes Amex acceptance is very wide these days. You can use it at most major supermarkets (Coles, Woolworths, Harris Farm etc) with no surcharge. Personally, I’m able to use my card for around 90% of expenses. Where it isn’t accepted, I use my companion Visa.

I have held an American Express Card since 1984 and I have never received free Qantas Points or status credits for my loyalty and yet I am never eligible for offers such as this.
Cancel your card. Wait for 18 months. Get a new card.
Amex don’t value loyalty so work the system.
