It's worth noting that Qatar sometimes offers upgrades upon checkin, so it's worth looking out for this option. You could also consider collecting Qatar Avios as a currency. I have been flying Qantas for years I tried to get business class upgraded but it never happens for me is it because of stutes credit?

In reply to Confused. Hi, yes, you should be able to access the business lounge (when travelling on QR business) or first lounge (when travelling first), on a QR ticket booked with VA points. I gained access myself just a few weeks ago with this scenario.
